Sandra Onia, BA, RHN Nutritional Consultant
I am thrilled to be joining the team at The Centre for Family Well Being. I believe that a wholesome diet is an essential part of overall health, and that nutritional counseling will complement the work of the other practitioners at The Centre, with the common goal of integrating balance between body and mind.
I graduated from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. It is an accredited, science-based diploma program. The focus of the program is on a holistic approach to health, which sees the body as a whole unit with intricate systems that depend on one another to operate optimally. What we eat can significantly affect not just our physical, but also our mental and emotional well being. Holistic nutrition looks at the healing properties of foods, emphasizes eating quality, whole foods that nourish the body. I believe a wholesome diet should be a part of an overall healthy lifestyle, not a temporary "quick-fix". I will help clients learn to make simple and realistic changes to their diet and eating patterns - for life.
I give guidance in the following areas: pre/post-natal nutrition, family nutrition, children and teen nutrition, senior nutrition, healthy weight loss, cardiovascular health, blood sugar regulations, digestive or intestinal imbalances, allergies/food insensitivities, immune system regulation, hormonal health, respiratory health, sports nutrition, emotional eating and more.
Each person is unique, and there is no one diet or lifestyle that is right for everyone all the time. As a Nutritional Consultant, I will do one-on-on consultations with clients. Before the consultation, clients will fill out a 5-Day Diet Diary, as well as Lifestyle Assessment and Nutritional Symptomatology forms. These forms help to uncover any nutritional imbalances int he body. I believe the client ultimately holds the key to their own well being, so the more information I can gather, the better I will be able to offer effective nutritional recommendations.
The Initial Consultation consists of 2 sessions. The first session reviews the forms and assesses the current food and lifestyle choices, as well as addresses any health concerns and questions. This session usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes. Based on these discussions, I will offer a personalized nutritional program in a 60 minute follow-up session, usually done within a week or two of the initial appointment.
Costs are as follows:
Initial Consultation (both sessions) - $145.00 (introductory offer October - December 2009 - $125.00) Follow-up Coaching - $80/hr
